The New AEON Mall Opens Friday

Da Nang gets its first AEON Mall this Friday, July 3. It is at 46 Dien Bien Phu in Thanh Khe, about five minutes from the airport, and it is the first AEON Mall in the whole central region.

Inside is a big AEON supermarket and about 140 shops across four floors, from fashion and beauty to phones, toys and food. Around half of the shops are brands new to the city.

The one people are most excited about is UNIQLO, the first one in Da Nang, up on the second floor. There is a huge food area too, so it is a real all-day place to shop, eat, take the kids, and get out of the heat and rain in one cool building.

Doors open 10am to 10pm on weekdays, and 9am to 10pm on weekends. There is parking for about 430 cars and 1,800 motorbikes.

Getting To AEON On A Busy Opening Weekend

Opening weekend will be packed. A brand new mall, a cool place to escape the July heat, and school holidays all land at the same time, so expect the car park and the roads around Dien Bien Phu to be full on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you can, go early when the doors open, or leave it to a weekday next week when it is calm. Take a motorbike if you have one, the bike parking is far bigger than the car parking.

If you drive or take a Grab, be ready to wait to get in and out, and drop off a little way down the street then walk the last bit. It is close to the airport, so give yourself extra time if you are catching a flight nearby.

🌦️

Weekend Weather, Hot With Afternoon Storms

A hot one this weekend. Days climb to around 33 to 35 degrees, muggy and bright in the morning, then a short thunderstorm can roll in through the afternoon on any of the three days.

The rain tends to come fast and hard around 2pm to 4pm, then clears. Sunday looks a touch cooler and wetter.

Drink plenty of water, keep to the shade in the middle of the day, and carry a small umbrella for the afternoon burst. The sea at My Khe is nicest early morning or after 4pm once the heat drops.

A good weekend to spend the hottest hours somewhere cool and indoors. One thing to keep in mind, this is storm season in Da Nang and the weather can change fast, so check the forecast again the morning you head out.

🎬

Last Free Outdoor Films, Friday Night

The Da Nang Asian Film Festival wraps up this weekend, and Friday July 3 is the last night of the free outdoor screenings. The city has been showing films under the open sky at spots around town, including East Sea Park in An Hai and the half circle on the Bach Dang walking street, starting about 7:30pm.

It is free, no pass needed. Bring a mat, grab some street food, and catch a film outside before the festival closes on Saturday.

If the afternoon storm has passed, it is a lovely cheap night out.

The Bigger Picture

Beyond the weekend, here is how the city is changing right now.

The AEON Mall opening is a big moment for Da Nang, not just a new shopping spot. It is the first AEON Mall in central Vietnam, a sign the city is now big enough to pull in the same names as Hanoi and Saigon. It brings hundreds of new jobs and brands like UNIQLO that were never here before. Expect more of this, malls, big brands, and offices, growing out from the center over the next few years.

The airport keeps getting bigger to match. Work to grow the international terminal runs to May 2027, taking check in counters from 54 to 85 and lifting the terminal to six million travellers a year. More flights means fuller beaches and busy restaurants on weekends, so book your favourite table ahead this summer.

The tech and chip money keeps landing too. Big names are setting up at the Hi-Tech Park and Software Park, and the city wants thousands of skilled tech workers. For locals that is the slow shift from a tourist town into a place with steady, better paid work, and fresh demand for rooms, cafes and food near the parks.

🎆

Fireworks Grand Final, July 11

The Fireworks Festival is down to its last night. The qualifying rounds are done, and the grand final is on Saturday July 11 on the Han River, starting about 8pm.

This is the big one, the top teams going head to head to close the festival. You can watch for free from the riverbanks, no ticket needed.

It is not this weekend, but if you want a good free spot, plan for it now, the river fills up about two hours before it starts.

Tell Your Visitors

A quick heads up for friends flying in. Vietnam checks that your passport has at least six months left before the end date.

If yours is getting close, renew it before you book the flight. The airline can stop you at the gate if it is short.

One less thing to worry about on the way over.
